Zobera Rahman Linu is the legend table tennis player of Bangladesh and is the only Bangladeshi female athlete whose name has been enlisted in the Guinness Books of World Records for winning 16 national championships in an individual category.


Although Zobera Rahman Linu was born in Kaptai, she passed his childhood in Shahzibazar, Sylhet. Linu started playing table tennis at her very early age, when she was only eight years old. At her childhood, she was inspired to play table tennis after watching her father and elder sister playing table tennis. While discussing about her childhood, once Linu said:

When we were in Shahzibazar, my father Sheikh Abdur Rahman used to go to Shahzibazar Officers Club everyday along with my older sister. They would play table tennis there. In 1973 at the age of eight, I went to that club for the first time and got introduced to the game. At the end of 1973, I began to practice table tennis on a regular basis and in 1974 my hobby turned into a full-fledged ambition.


Linu passed SSC from Rosulpur School of Narsingdi. Then she got admitted in Lalmatia Girls College, Dhaka and completed her HSC and BA from there. After that, she completed her post-graduation from Jagannath University in Psychology.


This Bangladeshi table tennis legend is now working as a national goodwill ambassador for UNICEF in Bangladesh. In addition, she is also working as a sport ambassador for renowned Bangladeshi brand Walton from June, 2013.

In addition to playing table tennis, Zobera Rahman Linu loves to ride bicycle. In fact, she is an excellent cyclist who had won the National Cycling Championship in 1978, 1979 and 1980.


Linu made an outstanding record of being the only sportsman in the world winning highest 16 championships in an individual category from 1979 to 2001 (excluding 1981, 1998 & 1999). As her recognition, Guinness Books of World Records has included her name in 2002 as the first ever sportsman who made such records. Besides, she also stood 5th in the Asian Table Tennis Championship of 1980, held in Japan. In addition, she was the founding president of Dhaka Cycling Club.
