When we think of golf in Bangladesh, the name of Siddikur Rahman is pronounced first of all. In fact, Siddikur Rahman is the first and only professional Bangladeshi golfer who is currently playing in the international tournaments too. Most importantly, Siddikur Rahman has just won the Hero Indian Open 2013 after a roller-coaster final round, which is his 2nd Asian Tour title.

Childhood & Early Career

This promising golf star had passed his childhood through extreme poverty. His father Mohammad Afjal Hosain was a taxi triver and his mother Monoara Begum was an ordinary housewife. After the liberation war of 1971, Afjal Hosain with his family shifted from Madaripur to Dhamalkota, a slum area nearest Dhaka city, to get rid of the curse of poverty. Mohammad Siddikur Rahman is the 3rd among his 4 brothers.
When Siddikur was in class three, his golf club days started as a ball boy to help his family and to support his study. Later, he worked as a junior caddy and carried bags for the Kurmitola Golf Club (KGC) members and got only thirty taka per day. Thus, besides earning money, he got the opportunity to watch and learn this aristocratic game from very closely. In this way, his golfing career was started.

Personal Life

This Bangladeshi golf icon is still single and looking for his perfect one. He is also very polite too.  Though golf is often recognized for its huge prize money, but once Siddikur Rahman said:

I do not play only for the prize money, it is a natural consequence if you play well, I’m just enjoying my game and trying to enhance my skills and learn few things from the world best golfers.
