Salman F Rahman is one of them who ruling the business world of Bangladesh. He is mostly known as the Vice-Chairman of Beximco Ltd and the Chairman of IFIC bank. He is ruling many business industries including Pharmaceuticals, Banking, ceramics, print media, online media and many more in Bangladesh.


Salman F Rahman completed his graduation from Karachi University in 1971.


Salman F Rahman started his career by a jute mill. He and his brother Ahmed Sohail Fasiur Rahman maintained this jute mill. Actually this mill was started by their father, who was former home minister of Pakistan. After the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971, the government of Bangladesh nationalized the mill from them. For this reason they are bound to be shifted in other business. So, they opened an export-import business and named their company Beximco (Bangladesh Export Import Company) Group.

The main business of Beximco is to export seafood and crushed bones to Germany, France, Britain, Belgium and lots more countries. But, in that time foreign exchange control of Bangladesh took a bold position of foreign exchange. So, they couldn’t bring their earned currency from other countries to Bangladesh. Then, they started to bring medicine by their earned currency from those countries. This is the startup story of Beximco pharma. From then, Beximco Pharma is one of the leading medicine companies of Bangladesh till now. It is the first Bangladeshi company which was listed at the London Alternative Investment Exchange. At the end of the December 2010 the Group had total revenues of $834 million.

After getting success from these companies, he involved with more businesses. He started textile industry, Airlines business, bank, ceramic business, print media, electronics media and lots more. He got success in all of these businesses.

In the year of 1996 he created a political party in Bangladesh named “Shomriddho Bangladesh Andolon” (Prosperous Bangladeshi Movement). He competed in the election of 2001 and lost. Then, he joined with Bangladesh Awami League.


He is criticized for many reasons. Especially in recent years he is accused of manipulated the stock exchange. December 2010 to January 2011, Dhaka Stock Exchange’s DGEN index lost over 29% and many private research firm and media reports published that he is the main culprit of this massive disaster. Over 3.5 million people lost their investment for this tragedy.


In the year of 2007 when caretaker government ruling the country, he went through jail for several cases. But, in 2009 when Bangladesh Awami League again won over the election, all charges against him were dropped by the courts.
