Munmun Ahmed is the most famous classical dancer in Bangladesh. She contributes in this industry almost two decades and reached in a position that one can dream only. She bought up in a cultural environment in her family.
The Journey of A Legend Kathak Dancer
Munmun Ahmed started her journey in dancing arena in her childhood. She didn’t get any obstacle from her family. In fact, her mother admitted her into the dance class in Azizpur Ladies Club when she was only three. She learnt her primary dancing there.
In 80’s she won two awards by holding first position in two categories (General dance and Kathak dance) in National Dance Contest (Jatiyo Shishu Puroshkar). It was the basement of her success. She got inspired by those awards hugely, and decided to learn dancing seriously.
She went to India to receive higher education in Dance; she stayed there 1987-94. At first she admitted into Sriram Bharata Kala Kendra to learn Kathak, and then she went to trainer Raj Kumar Sharma and Pandit Rammohon Maharaj. After learning from them she went to Delhi Katha Kendra to be trained by famous Kathak Artist in this Sub-continent Birju Maharaj. She also completed her fellowship there.
Munmun Ahmed has got tons of awards till now. A short list of her awards is given below.
- National Award by Shishu Academy for Kathak Dance in 1980
- National Award by Shishu Academy for general dancing in 1980
- UNESCO Cultural Award in 2000
- NHK Japan Award in 2000
- Ekota Bangladesh in 2001 and 2003
- Television Viewers Award 2003
She travelled a many countries for dancing such as India, Pakistan, USA, Russia, Australia, Turkey, Kenya, Zambia, Nigeria, UAE, Bahrain, Iraq, Qatar and Libya.
Munmun Ahmed runs a dance school named Rewaz Performers School in Kalabagan, Dhaka. She is also one of six founder members of Nrittyodhara which works for promoting dance.
Munmun Ahmed also starts acting. She has performed in three movies. These are:

- Jomidar Potni
- Amar Ase Jol
She has directed as a Dance Trainer in two movies yet. These are:
- Dui Purush (2011)
- Golapi Ekhon Bilete (2010)
- Hasan Raja (2003)
She has performed in a Daily soap named “Khonikaloy” too.
