ATM Shamsuzzaman is a popular actor in Bangladesh. He is a successful actor in Dhallywood. He has already acted in more than hundreds of movies and dramas. He is still acting and wants to keep it up more days. He is one of the most experienced actors in Bangladesh.


In his childhood, his full name was Abu Taher Mohammad Shamsuzzaman. In shorter version, it is only ATM Shamsuzzaman. He was born on 10th September 1941.


ATM Shamsuzzaman wanted to be a novelist. Literature is his favorite subject. He was writing from his school days. He wrote a story for his school’s magazine named “Obohela” which was inspired by poet Ferdousi.

ATM Shamsuzzaman started his career in Dhallywood as an assistant-director in 1961. The movie-name was “Bishkonnya” and the director was Udoyon Chowdhury. In 1965, he first wrote a screenplay for the movie “Jolsobi” which was directed by H. Akbor. He got the chance of working with directors like Khan Ataur Rahman, Kazi Jahir, Shuvash Datta etc.

His acting career began in 1965 wth the movie “Nayi Zindegi” which was not completed yet. He came to the limelight in 1974 when he acted in a movie named “Noyonmoni” as a villain. After that movie, he acted in many movies in villain part. After some years he realized that he was going to ‘typed’ actor, so he started acting in “Joker” characters too in the movie. He also got success in Joker character.

He started acting in Dramas from early 1960s. His first drama was “Shongshoptok”, where he acted in the role of “Ramjan”.

He directed one movie named “Ebadot” in 2006. Popular cinema-pair Riaz and Shabnur acted in that movie.


ATM Shamsuzzaman got National Award four times.

Personal Life

ATM Shamsuzzaman had six sons. Unfortunately his one son ATM Kholikuzzaman Kushol killed another son ATM Kamaluzzaman Kabir in 13th March, 2012.
