Professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed is a famous writer, organizer and activist of Bangladesh. He is mostly popular as Sayeed Sir to the people of Bangladesh. He is the founder of Bishwa Shahitya Kendra (World Literature Center). He was involved with literature movement in the early 1960s. He was a professor of Bengali language in Dhaka College. He is a multi-talented person who makes poems, essays, stories, dramas, translations, autobiographical writings, travelogue, etc in his lifetime.

Childhood & Education

Abdullah Abu Sayeed was born in 1940 in Calcutta. His father Azimuddin Ahmed was a teacher of Bengali and English language. Professor Sayeed passed SSC from Pabna Zilla School in 1955 and HSC from Profollo Chandra College in 1957. Then he completed his BA and MA from the University of Dhaka in Bengali.

Abdullah Abu Sayeed has dedicated his life for making Bengali literature popular to the young people of Bangladesh. He was a professor of Bengali language in Dhaka College. He engaged with TV program named “Shaptabarna” in 1970’s which was telecasted in Bangladesh Television. But the main invention in his career is “Bishwa Shahitya Kendro” which was built in 1978.



He has written huge number of books. Some of his popular books are:

Abdullah Abu Sayeed is a great personality. He has got numerous awards in his lifetime. He is awarded by Ramon Magsaysay Award in Journalism, Literature, and Creative Communication Arts for “cultivating in the youth of Bangladesh a love for literature and its humanizing values through exposure to the great books of Bengal and the world”

Personal life

Abdullah Abu Sayeed loves to travel around the world. He visited Japan, U.S.A, U.K, France, Italy, Switzerland, Australia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapure, India, etc in his lifetime. He is an idealist and dreamer who love to think that one day Bangladesh will be a ruling power in the world.
